PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Hi Quilters,

Phew, getting ready for the quilt show and looking so forward to it.  I know it is going to be awesome because we have so many, hard working, creative, talented members that will ensure the show is a success.  My Husband Glenn, came into my quilt room today and had the nerve to want to go to Longwood Gardens this afternoon.  Totally spontaneous!  "But I have the quilt show to worry about!" I cried.  Is he crazy, I ask you?  Has he taken leave of his senses?  I could make some more pin cushions for the Acorn Shoppe (mine are awesome, you all are going to want one)  But I took a breath and thought here is a good chance to take a break and literally smell the flowers.  I wanted to share a beautiful picture I took with my phone of the tulips in full bloom.

Remember, while we are working so hard towards the goal of a fabulous quilt show, we need to have a good time doing it.  It is fun.  Quilting is fun and sharing our passion for quilting with others is fun.

See you at the show.

MYSTERY BOX - STEPHANIE BRASKEY

Mystery Box
There will not be any more Mystery Boxes this year.  I hope everyone enjoyed the prizes and I hope someone will consider taking the job for next year when asked.  It was easy and a lot of fun.
I have REALLY enjoyed doing the Mystery Box this year.  As many of you know, I will soon be leaving to spend a year in Shanghai, China while my husband is working there.  I will miss everyone at Penn Oaks and hope to be able to attend a meeting whenever we are home throughout the year.  I'll keep in touch via e-mail and tell you all about my adventures when we get back.
In stitches,
Stephanie Braskey
FROM MYRNA
Fabric Web Site
I was trying to find a fabric to complete a quilt top I made last year.  Locally I could not find it at our favorite quilt shops.  When I took my quilts to the professional quilter, she told me to go to Quiltshops.com.  They ask for your name, info about the fabric, and your email address.  What they do is search the quilt shops throughout the country and when they receive a positive reply(s) will email you immediately with the shops who have your fabric and the cost per yard.   My fabric was found in Shiner, Texas and was mailed/received two days after I ordered.

April 2013 Newsletter

Hi Quilters,

Will spring ever arrive? - I think we will just skip spring and move right into summer.  Bummer!  I hope you all are busy getting your quilts done for the show.  It is going to be a great event and we have many quilters working behind the scenes to make it so.  We are going to discuss the show in more detail (not too much) at the April meeting.  Speaking of the April meeting, can't wait to see the challenge quilts.  I look forward to the challenge meeting every year and I already have my quilt done and packed in an anonymous paper bag.  It is so much fun to vote and guess which quilt belongs to which quilter.  For those of you on the fence about participating - Do It.  I am sure you can put something together.  You still have time to make a 24 by 24 inch quilt.  Go For it.

Finally, I know we are all working hard towards the quilt show but we also have to be thinking about next year.  Denise Blake, Helen Hofbauer and myself will soon be tapping some of you to work in the guild leadership next year.  We are the nominating committee.  So if you receive a message about volunteering from us please consider it.  It is a great way to get closer to some of your quilter friends.  We really have a good time.  At Penn Oaks we see many of the same faces in leadership positions over and over again.  It would be nice to see some new ones.

Happy Quilting
Robin

Quilt Show Update Suzanne Stiverson

QUILT SHOW—Finish those quilts—1 months to go!!!!!
Remember your quilt show is Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, 2013.
OK Penn Oaks, we need to get all the quilt entries into Ellen by the 5th (and by the 7th’s meeting probably will fly.  Copies are on our site: www.pennoaksquilters.org.
Now we need to get our friends, church groups, etc. to attend.  We’ve almost covered many of the costs, but we need your help to get folks to attend.   That is where the income is.  Attendees pay for  entry, but they are also the ones to buy raffle tickets and also support our vendors.  We want our vendors back.
Don’t forget to get things to Sara for Acorn Shoppe; your small quilts to Kelly and make sure you are there to help during the time you signed up.
Let’s really rally around our biggest and now only fund raiser.  The committees have done so much.  Leslie has really gone the extra mile for publicity.  Now it’s your turn.
Thanks for all your help.  Hope to see you there.

Patches of Love --  Rita Marie Smith       We have 31 wonderful pillowcases to date for the pediatric unit at Hershey.   If everyone just made 2 pillowcases we could donate 120 pillowcases this year! !   I know there is alot going on right now with the quilt show and the 2013 challenge quilts but in May please think about making a couple of pillowcases to donate.  They don't take long at all.  Just imagine the smile you would be putting on that patient's face when they receive it !  Directions will be available at the April meeting.
 Mystery Box
The Mystery Box will be held this month. It is a fund-raiser for the guild.  Chances are $1 or 6 for $5 and the prize is always worth $20 or more.
