President's Letter
The 2017 Penn Oaks Quilt Show is history. Anyone who was unable to see it really missed a gem, didn't they? It was a wonderful show all around. It was so nice to see members as well as non-members working so hard to make this show what it is. Thank you to everyone who helped out even in the smallest way.
Maureen Carlson did a great job on the website. Please go to our website to see all the quilts and the list of winners....... Quilt Show Recap
Our June meeting features a lecture and trunk show by Lonni Rossi. Because this is a 2-hour lecture, THERE WILL BE NO BUSINESS MEETING OR SHOW & TELL.
We will have our annual bee on August 14 from 4:00 until 8:00 at the church. Bring some stitching and dinner or snacks if you'd like. A regular business meeting, show & tell, and continued quilt show discussion will resume at the September meeting.

The talk is called Double Happiness: The Marriage of Graphic Design and Textiles.
The talk is called Double Happiness: The Marriage of Graphic Design and Textiles.
"How and why I do what I do, with design motifs and type, calligraphy and other graphic symbols of communication, to create my authentically handcrafted, multi-processed textiles. This is a "process" lecture that gives in-depth instruction about the design process, my sources of inspiration and my multiple painting processes. Trunk show and lecture / Approximately 2 hours. "
Membership Carolyn Davis and Jamie Loncaric
We had 28 members at our May meeting. We also had one guest, Ruth Heslin. Welcome, Ruth, we hope to see you again!

Quilt Show - Ellen McMillen
I do not have the final numbers as I still have outstanding invoices. For those who missed the May meeting I would like to mention that we had 393 attendees which is a nine percent increase over the 2015 show! Rain and all! Like so many of you I've had a lot of positive feedback about our show. Last week I was in The Old Country Store and spoke with Jan Mast, the shop owner. Her comment was that no matter the weather quilters would come to see our show as it has such a good reputation. Something to think about. As soon as I have the financial results I'll send out a separate email via Kelly. Stay tuned.
2018 Getaway - Ellen McMillen and Pat Sherman
Next year the Getaway dates are February 21 - 25. We will take the Getaway reservations at the October meeting. This will allow everyone a bit of extra time to make their plans. In addition to our main sewing room, we have signed up for a small conference room on the lobby level of the Amish View Inn. It can comfortably hold up to 10 quilters which means that we can have up to 38 quilters at the Getaway. The room will have all the functionality of the larger room and has natural light. For those of you who would like a bit quieter working space this would be ideal. The additional cost is $212 which includes tax. To limit the increase in the sewing room fee to approximately $4.00 per person we would need 34 attendees. Should you have any questions contact Ellen or Pat.
Susan Longenecker sent a very good link about quilters, their posture and health. This is a must read for all of us! Stay Fit While You Sew

Membership dues are due in June. At our last meeting, we voted to raise membership to $40.00 per year. The new membership form will come as a separate email. Please complete the form and bring it to the June meeting. The completed forms help us update member information for the directory.
I am happy to say that Diana Smyrl has volunteered to be our Membership Chairperson for the 2017-2018 term. I want to thank Diana for so graciously offering to take on this job.
Pending Executive Board approval, Diana is anxious to take over as Membership Chairperson. We would appreciate if everyone would pay their dues promptly. This enables the guild to have an accurate budget and an updated directory as soon as possible and also an updated email list for newsletter and notifications.
Thank you in advance for your prompt renewals.

Please send them to Kelly Meanix at kellymx@aol.com We still have a newsletter in July and August even though there is no regular meeting.

Ronald McDonald House- Snacks Jean Zubert
I will be collecting donations for the Ronald McDonald House snacks program at the June meeting. They are looking for anything that is individually wrapped to be given to the families that are staying at the House. The other children in the family like to take treats to their siblings. Some suggestions are -- individually wrapped cookies and crackers, small packages of popcorn and pretzels, fruit snacks. Anything that you think children will like and that will fit into larger baggies. Just bring it to the meeting and I will take it from there.
This is a wonderful program and it is very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Jean Zubert
