President's Letter
Summer is rolling right along. I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and, most of all, finding at least a little bit of time to stitch.
At our June meeting, we had a very interesting speaker, Lonni Rossi. I think she inspired many who were in attendance. We had a full house and even got 4 new members. It's so great to see so many visiting faces and especially ones who chose to join and stay with us.
Thank you so much for the Polaroid blocks that you gave me at the June meeting. I was blown away! You people are so sneaky, I had no clue and it was totally unexpected. Never saw a thing! I'm touched by all of them and looking forward to putting them together. There are 91 blocks with promises of a few more. Maybe I'll make it to 100!
I'm looking forward to another year as your president. Thank you so much to the wonderful board and committee chairs who helped me through this past year. It was a learning year for me and I have new plans for the year ahead. I think we have a great new board and committees who are all anxious to get working.
Don't forget, there is no meeting in July but we will have our fun bee on August 14 from approximately 4:00 until 8:00. Come whenever. It's always a very casual evening. Bring whatever you'd like to work on or just bring yourself to visit and chat. It always feels like we never have enough time to do that at a regular meeting. Hospitality has the night off (Yay for the great job that Angel always does) so bring a drink and snack or dinner for yourself.
If you're hankering for some quilt activity in July, Calico Cutters Quilt Guild is having Melissa Averinos as their lecturer on Wednesday, July 12. All I can say is it will be interesting!
Here are the rules:
You must use at least a five inch square in the quilt
The quilt will be 16" x 24" (a great size for the raffle quilts for our next show-wink, wink)
That's it. Pretty simple.
Any questions please call or e-mail me.

To all at Penn Oaks Guild,
I am overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity during this difficult time for my health. All the meals you’ve been bringing are appreciated and enjoyed, home cooked or not, and each one comes with a smiling face and encouraging words. Thanks as well for your cards and calls and for being my Facebook friend. There’s always something to lift my spirits at just the right time each day. I know I’ll get through this and be sewing again before I know it. I hope to repay you in kind should you need me when I’m put back together again.
Blessings to all,
Betsy Moses
Quilt Show
We had a great show! My personal thanks to each and every one of you for your dedication and hard work. To complete our records on the show, I would appreciate a brief summary report from committee chairs. This should describe any problems and/or any thoughts for possible changes.
We will have more detail at the September meeting. I would like to have a final quilt show meeting in late August or early September. I am almost always available. How about 8/23 to 9/7? We can have it at my house in Morgantown, unless someone more central wants to have it in their home. Please let me know. Thanks and thanks again.

Treasurer's Report 2017 Quilt Show
While running a final check of the quilt show's revenues and expenses I realized I had made a large error.
I double counted Smithfield Barn's commission. This resulted in additional revenue of nearly $700! With the mini quilt ticket sales at the June meeting, our quilt show netted $4,893.00! This is a 28 percent increase over the $3,811 net income of the 2015 show!
I'm so sorry I did not discover this error prior to the June meeting.

2018 Challenge
I found some really ugly fabric that will be used in the challenge. At our next meeting (September), I will have fat quarters available for purchase. Each fat quarter will cost a member $1.

From Suzanne Doonan
Destination Craft, Season One, premiers on WHYY 2 on Sunday, July 2, at 3 pm. Episode 1 features crafts in Bali. The series continues featuring Penn Oaks quilter Sara Borr in Peru and Suzanne Doonan in Austria/Germany.
Sara and I wish to thank guild members who supported our effort to lobby WHYY to offer this program. At the time, WHYY had not committed. Your support made the difference. Check out the show's website www.destinationcraft.com for previews of each episode.
Sara and I recently returned from filming two episodes, Spain and Portugal, in Season Two, which will air in 2018. Our travel experience was amazing; the crafters were extraordinary.
Vermont Quilt Festival
I was lucky enough to go to the Vermont Quilt Festival last week with Cheryl Lynch to help her in her booth. If you have never been I think you would like it. There were quilts there we haven't seen before and a very interesting judging system. Your quilt was judged on it's own merits and not against other quilts.
I bought this antique baby quilt just because.....I couldn't pass it up! So keep Vermont in mind for next year in case you are headed up north.
Please feel free to send me anything of interest you find along the way this summer.
