I hope everyone had a wonderful time at the Getaway, whatever your goals were, getting lots of sewing done, spending more time with friends, shopping, or all of the above. Ellen and Pat always do a wonderful job of organizing this event and deserve a huge thank you.
There was wonderful news at the February meeting. Jean Zubert volunteered to be Quilt Show Chairperson and the members voted to have another quilt show. That means there is lots to do and we are a little behind schedule. Let’s all support Jean and her committees so that we can have another successful show.
At March’s meeting, we will have our annual Silent Auction. I really don’t need anything but I know I’ll find some treasures that I just have to have. It’s fun and a great fundraiser for the guild. Diana Smyrl puts together the most tempting bundles and there are always tools, books, etc as well. If you’ve never been to this before, please don’t miss it. I’ll bet you’ll find some treasures too.
See you March 12,
Stephanie Braskey
Minutes
Kelly Meanix stood in for Stephanie Braskey who was away.
There were 35 members and 1 guest present.
Debbie Becker reported that we have a $19,000 balance.
Kelly Shaw of AseraCare Hospice talked about the need for volunteers. We have information for any member interested. She is also looking for volunteers to make pillows/quilts from patients' clothing to give to their families.
Jean Zubert brought the snacks and various members helped fill bags that will go to Ronald McDonald House.
The Challenge quilts were all amazing but we are not sure who won as they left with their quilt before the meeting was over! Denise Blake made a beautiful ribbon, mug rug and a $30 gift certificate for the winner. We will update when we know who the winner is!
There is a workshop tentatively scheduled for 6/11/18 with Joyce Hughes. If you are interested please contact Rita Marie Smith.
Members are reminded that next month is our Silent Auction. If you have any donations please contact Diana Smyrl. Please be generous with you purchases, this is a fund raiser.
We received 2 quilts for the Downingtown Library fund raiser. If you are interested in making a quilt, please see the details in the newsletter.
The by-law changes were discussed and voted on.
Robin McMillen gave a report on quilt show finances. Jean Zubert has volunteered to be the Quilt Show Chairperson with the show to be held in May of 2019. The membership voted to proceed with a show. Jean will be announcing the changes she plans to make to the show in the coming months. She is looking for a new venue.
Show and Tell
Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted (substituting for Leslie O'Brien),

Baby Bits As always, feel free to make baby quilts, 30 x 30, for the NICU at Chester County Hospital. CCH also accepts knitted or crocheted baby blankets that are used in the general nursery. At this time, the nursery does not need baby hats.
CCH also has Ob/Gyn Clinic Services for those in need. The clinic will happily accept blankets and hats that are quilted, knitted or crocheted. Color is not important. Use scraps of yarn and fabric!!
Pillowcases Children’s can be given to Debbie Becker or Suzanne Doonan.. Adult pillowcases can be given to Diana Smirl. Links to pillowcase instructions:

Frustrated Fidgeters.
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING ONE OF THESE AS THEY ARE VERY NEEDED! The Pocopson Nursing Home has asked us to make sewn or knitted items for dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc. patients, who may become agitated and need to keep their hands occupied. These are designed to offer an outlet for anxious fidgeting.
A twiddlemuff is a double thickness hand muff with bits and bobs attached inside and out. Fleece would work well. An activity blanket or pillow serves the same purpose. Activity blankets are comforting of they have some weight to them (3-5 lbs.) – this gives a sense of security. A blanket can be weighed down with thicker fill, rice, dried beans, etc. All items must be firmly attached or, if detachable, must be too large to be swallowed.
For more ideas google twiddlemuff images and look on pinterest.
Chester Bears
There is a group led by Susan Longenecker that makes stuffed bears for use in the CCH emergency department.
Anything you make can be given to Debbie Becker or Suzanne Doonan at meetings.
Thank you so much Pat and Ellen for hosting yet another fun getaway! Everyone had such a good time and got lots of work done! We appreciate all your hard work.
Below are pictures from our time away. If you didn't make it this year please put it on your calendar for next year!
I apologize for not taking more pictures!
How adorable is this? Pat Sherman and her daughter Dana O'Connor made these for each participant! |
I was the first one up one morning! |
