President's Letter
Spring is finally here, April is here, and that means our quilt show is only a month away. Yikes! There is plenty to do. PLEASE read the rest of this newsletter carefully. There are many ways that you can help make this a very successful show.
In addition to looking forward to our show, we have a wonderful speaker, Jody Beck, to look forward to at this month's meeting. I hope everyone can make it to hear her presentation.
Also, remember that the board is calling for nominations for Volunteer of the Year. The form was sent out in a separate email and can be given to any board member at the meeting or mailed to me. The Volunteer of the Year will be honored at the June meeting.
See you at the meeting,

We are excited to have Jody Beck of Jody's Jems coming to speak at our meeting in April.
Jody is planning her samples for her Jody's Jems Journey trunk show next month at our guild meeting and wants to make sure she brings the samples you definitely want to see. With almost 30 patterns now she can't bring them all or we'd be at the meeting all night. Please go to her website pattern page www.jodysjemsquilting.com, when you have time and email her at jodysjems10@gmail.com with any request of the patterns you would love to see and she'll do her best to bring a sample or two of the patterns requested. Please make a note Penn Oaks somewhere in the email. She's looking forward to coming next month to meet you. Thank you.

Mini Raffle Quilts for the Quilt Show
Please remember the April meeting is the last time to give me your mini raffle quilts, at this point I have 18. If you are not going to be at the meeting, please give it to a friend. I will be away and will not be able to get the quilts after the meeting date. It takes time to photograph all the quilts and get them ready for the show. Quilts are to be 16" wide by 24" long, any theme or idea is welcome. All quilts must be finished and ready to hang. Please do your best work and remember no cheater cloth. People really enjoy this part of our show and it is a substantial money maker, so let's get sewing so they have a lot to choose from on our clothes line! Remember the money from the mini quilts help to pay for our speakers/activities for the next 2 years. If you have any questions at all please contact me, Kelly Meanix 610-873-7211 or kellymx@aol.com
Acorn Shop Needs:
Please help us stock up our inventory for the quilt show! We are still in desperate need for items to sell…donations and consignments. We hardly have anything currently.
Think about going through your sewing rooms and take inventory to see if you have “extra” items…I found I had 2 of the same template!! (I must have really liked it…both times!!) Or even items that you acquired, but never used (like those templates of mine.) Why let them sit there and collect dust (AKA: fabric fuzz and cut threads!) Let someone else enjoy trying them out.
TIME FOR SOME SPRING CLEANING!! You’ll be happier to see the top of your cutting table once again!
Purchased a gadget that you’ve forgotten what it does, then gave up on it?
Purchased a gadget that you’ve forgotten what it does, then gave up on it?
· How about older books or magazines?
· About time you decluttered those drawers or shelves??
· Have a few extra patterns or notions?
· Why hang on to it? Everything you can provide will be most appreciated. Please bring your items to the April guild meeting. We will be there to collect either donations or the consigned items. Please take another look at your things to see if there is something you can donate. Also we have not heard from many consignors. This meeting is your last shot! Call Pat Smith 610-256-2326 if you have any questions. Thank you! Pat Smith and Helen Hofbauer
Quilt Show Judging
I I hope that many of you will be interested in being part of the judging process. It is always educational, sometimes inspirational, and can be fun! We have two excellent judges. One judge, Stacy Kohler, was our speaker last March. We will need about 12 members working shifts throughout the set-up day. Judging will begin by 10:30 and should conclude by 4:30. We will work in two-hour shifts, four members per shift. In addition, one or two members will be needed to set up our judging area (the kitchen) beginning at 9 am. Questions? Please ask me. Thank you!

2016 Challenge Quilts - The Silver Screen
Bob, our Master Quilt Hanger, tells me that all the challenge quilts will need a narrow, (about 1.5") simple sleeve for hanging. If you've not yet sent me your entry form for the 2016 Challenge - The Silver Screen, please do so asap. The projects for this challenge were wonderful and would make a great display. You only need to complete your personal information, the quilt size and the name of the movie the quilt represents. Do include a photo. As there is no entry fee you can scan the entry form and email it to me. Thank you!

Fat Quarter Exchange
For the fat Quarter exchange I am making a change to make it simple and easy so everyone can participate. Everyone will bring just 1 FQ to raffle any color or design they want. NO rules… So let's see if more people will participate.

These are the Do Not Touch signs that we made for our last show. If anyone wants to make one, or more, they will be used well.
Average size is 11x8

Baby Bits
As always, feel free to make baby quilts, 30 x 30, for the NICU at
Chester County Hospital. You can also knot or crochet baby hats, including
preemie sizes. CCH also has Ob/Gyn
Clinic Services for those in need. The clinic will happily accept blankets and
hats that are quilted, knitted or crocheted. Color is not important. Use scraps
of yarn and fabric!!
Pillowcases Children’s can be given to Allie
Barchi or me. Adult pillowcases can be given to Diana Smirl who works at
Wellington Terrace.
Frustrated Fidgeters.
The Pocopson Nursing Home has asked us to make sewn or knitted items for dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc. patients, who may become
agitated and need to keep their hands occupied.
These are designed to offer an outlet for anxious fidgeting.
A
twiddlemuff is a double thickness hand muff with bits and bobs attached inside
and out. Fleece would work well. An
activity blanket or pillow serves the same purpose. Activity blankets are comforting of they have
some weight to them (3-5 lbs.) – this gives a sense of security. A blanket can
be weighed down with thicker fill, rice, dried beans, etc. All items must be
firmly attached or, if detachable, must
be too large to be swallowed.
I know
these photos are small. You can enlarge the newsletter. Also, look here:
For more
ideas google twiddlemuff images and look
on pinterest.
Anything
you make can be given to me at meetings or dropped off at Downingtown Animal
Hospital.

How many years ago did you start quilting
I started quilting about 17 years ago right after Miranda was born and I became a stay at home mom.
What is your favorite part of the quilting process?
I love choosing the colors and the freedom of mixing patterns
What is your favorite color?
Orange
How many quilts do you think you have made?
30 Quilts
What is your next project?
I would like to make a new table runner for my kitchen table with a simple pattern with shadows.
Tell us something the members may want to know about yourself.
That is a hard question - I feel like everyone knows everything about me. I am allergic to all fuzzy animals so I have a fish tank in my kitchen. One day - I would love to have a large saltwater tank in my foyer.
