March is here and our quilt show is only two months away. Everyone is busy filling out entry forms (they are due by our meeting day, March 13), finishing their quilts, finishing raffle quilts, and cleaning out their sewing rooms to donate items to the Acorn Shop or door prizes. Right? I hope so. There is a lot to do yet. Please sign up to volunteer at the show sometime if you can. Sign up sheets will be at the meeting. If you can't attend a meeting but would like to help in some way, contact Carolyn Davis.
The Getaway was a fun and productive time in Bird-in-Hand. There was shopping, eating, and, yes, sewing. For those who were unable to sign up this year, the chairpersons are working on options so everyone can possibly be included next year. Stay tuned for more info.
Hope to see everyone at the March meeting,

March Bake Off
Attention Bakers:
We will host a cake bake-off in March so we can select a feature cake for the Dresden Plate at the Quilt show. In addition to the Lover's Knot Chocolate Cake and the Ultimate Carrot Cake I would like to offer an additional flavor. We may just make 2 cakes of that variety - I have not decided yet. So if you have a good and easy cake recipe here is your chance to win a small prize and more importantly - bragging rights. Here are the rules
- Cake must have a relatively simple recipe with no exotic ingredients.
- Cake must be made in a 9 by 13 inch pan.
- Cake must be different from the Chocolate Cake and the Carrot Cake
- You must be willing to share the recipe.
- Contact Robin McMillen at robin_mcmillen@yahoo.com to notify me that you are willing to participate and the title of your cake so I have a count of how many cakes (you may re-name your cake after a quilting, I am baking a "Better than Sex Cake" But I am going to call it "Better than Free Fabric" or something similar.) You will also need to help serve your cake for sampling at the meeting. I will set up a special table and provide forks and plates.
- Everyone can sample the cakes at the meeting and receive a ticket to vote for your favorite. We will count the votes and declare the winner at the meeting.
March - Round Robin Demonstrations
Some of our in house experts will provide demonstrations and techniques that will either inspire you to do something new or help you improve the work on some of your current projects. The experts will not only demonstrate their technique but you will receive a handout to take with you that has recommendations regarding materials required and where to get more information on the techniques. As of now, there will be 3 different 15 to 20 minute sessions so you can choose 3 of the 5 topics.
Here is a list of our experts:
Carolyn Davis - Binding
Kathy DeCarli - Machine Applique
Jean Fox - Embroidery
Suzanne Stiverson - Beading
April - Speaker Jody Beck of Jody's Jems
Jody will present her beautiful and innovative Stack and Slash Technique. You can see her work at:

Hospitality
The snack list for the March guild meeting is: E. Mincarelli, C. Morano, B. Moses, R. Newlander*, L. O'Brien*, D. O'Connor, M. Paczok, M. Paluba, L. Paylor. A star after your name indicates to bring a drink for the group in lieu of a snack. Remember to switch your responsibility with a friend if you cannot attend so we don't run short.
Silent Auction News
It was decided not to have a Silent Auction this year due
to the Acorn Shop at the Quilt Show. Please donate all usable
items to the Acorn Shop.
The Silent Auction will return in 2018.
Thanks
Quilt Show
Wow! I am so pleased with the number of people who have signed up to help with the quilt show. Lots of time slots filled and plenty of time to fill the rest. I will have the lists again at the meeting in March. Don’t think of it so much as work as hosting a fantastic party. We have such a great time; you will want to spend as much time as possible there.
Please keep working on your mini quilts for the raffle and your quilts for the show. If there is anyone you know who sews or quilts, please let them know about our plan to put business cards in the program. It could be a handy resource for our visitors and would keep our name in front of them. $10 for a business card.
There will be some technical details to discuss as we get closer. If you have questions, please email me. This is going to be great. Start posting on your Facebook page. Start gentle reminders for your non-quilting friends.
Carolyn DavisAcorn Shop Please bring tons of your donations for the Acorn Shop to the meeting... Great time to spring clean your sewing room. Let's make this a great Acorn this year!!!! Pat Smith. 610-256-2326❤️
The consignment sheets will be sent in a separate email along with the rules. Sheets will also be available at the meeting.
Mini Quilts
Please get your mini quilts to me by the March and April meetings. I will be away right before the show and will not accept any quilts after the April meeting. I have 17 quilts so I know there are a lot of beautiful WIPs out there! At the last show we had 100% participation, let's try and do it again!
Size is 16" wide by 24" long please no other sizes, any subject matter or technique is welcome the only requirements other than the size, is it must be finished and no cheater cloth. If you have any questions at all please email me kellymx@aol.com or call 610-873-7211. Kelly Meanix
Raffle Baskets for Quilt Show
Hello Members: Don't forget as you clean or rearrange your sewing room to save anything that you think will be a good item for the raffle baskets. As of now, I don't have enough things but for one maybe two baskets. We would like to have at least ten baskets for the raffle. I will be at the March and April meetings to collect anything you bring. Thanks Jean Fox
Quilt Show Entry Forms
Just a not so gentle reminder that the forms are due MARCH 13th! As of February 23rd I have only 6 entries. Thank you all.

Quilt Show Judging
I hope that many of you will be interested in being part of the judging process. It is always educational, sometimes inspirational, and can be fun! We have two excellent judges. One judge, Stacy Kohler, was our speaker last March. We will need about 12 members working shifts throughout the set-up day. Judging will begin by 10:30 and should conclude by 4:30. We will work in two-hour shifts, four members per shift. In addition, one or two members will be needed to set up our judging area (the kitchen) beginning at 9 am. Questions? Please ask me. Thank you!
