July 2019 Newsletter

This is a very skimpy newsletter. Please consider sending something for the newsletter next month.
Please note that the new Executive Board members are listed on the right hand side.

2020 Getaway
Hello quilters! We hope you'll take a moment to consider attending the next Penn Oaks Getaway. We will continue to hold our Getaway at the Amish View Inn & Suites at 3125 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand. Next year, the Getaway dates are February 19-23. We will take the Getaway reservations at the October meeting. This will allow everyone time to make their plans, and give our new members the opportunity to find out about this fun event. The sewing room has the capacity to hold 28 quilters, allowing one 6 foot long table per quilter. The sewing room fee is $400 plus 6% tax; this amount will be shared equally by all attendees. The room rates (including tax) for a single/double room will be $109.89 for Wednesday/Thursday nights, and $159.84 for Friday/Saturday nights. A deposit of $100.00 per room will hold your reservation. Come for one night, two, three or all four nights to sew, shop and visit with your fellow members. Take a look at the Amish View Inn web site ( www.AmishViewInn.com) to learn about this wonderful venue. The Getaway reservation form will be sent via email about 10 days prior to the October guild meeting. Pat Sherman has chosen to step down from her position as Co-Chair. Thank you Pat for sharing this task with me these last years. Cindy Vognetz has kindly offered to Co-Chair this event. Feel free to email us with any questions.

Meet our new Sewing Class Coordinator

We’re pleased to introduce Donna Daley as our new Sewing Class Coordinator and Notions Buyer.
Donna has spent the past 17 years as a 4th grade schoolteacher and is excited about this new chapter in her life! She loves to sew, has won several Row by Row ribbons, and has co-led a Sewing Service Club for students at her school. Donna is a member of the Penn Oaks Quilt Guild and enjoys reading and learning history.
Please join us in welcoming Donna!

Fun Summer Sewing

Sew Me Something Good has this adorable mini backpack key chain. This would be fun to make for a child's backpack.

American Flag Quilt

Or maybe you would like to make something more patriotic? Amy at Diary of a Quilter has this cute and fast TUTORIAL that would use up lots of scraps too.

AQS Lancaster Quilt Show 2020

Important information about the Lancaster Quilt Show!
After issues with driving in downtown and parking by the quilters and issues with the loading dock has resulted in fewer and fewer attendees and vendors coming to the Lancaster Convention Center.
For 2020 there will be a show at the Convention Center on March 25 -28, 2020. The second show will be at Spooky Nook in August of 2020. Going forward the show at the Convention Center will be dropped and will only be held at Spooky Nook.
The 2020 AQS Quilt Week at Spooky Nook Sports is just 10 miles from the Convention Center. The dates are August 5-7, 2020 (3 day show). It will be held Wednesday through Friday because apparently Saturdays are consistently the least attended days at their shows, not only in Lancaster but at all their other venues.
-Parking will be the same as downtown, $7.00.
-Everything will be on 1 floor, they have 100,000 square feet to work with.
-Spooky Nook has a 150-room hotel attached to it in addition to a free standing   hotel very close to it along Rt 283.
