September 2017 Newsletter

President's Letter
September is here and summer is waning. I had a wonderful summer and I really hope all of you did too.  A little bit of sewing, a little bit of travel, and couldn't complain too much about the weather.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's show and tell at the meeting with what you've been up to this summer.  I'm also looking forward to Jean Fox's trunk show before she leaves us for Texas.  Hope to see everyone at the meeting!

Programs - Rita Marie and Linda

I am delighted to begin the 2017-2018 program year with our own Jean Fox. Jean will present a Crazy Quilt Trunk Show for us.  She is not only a quilter but an accomplished embroiderer and appliques.  It will be a real treat to see Jean's quilts and admire her needlework skills.
If you have a crazy quilt, please consider bringing it for the show and tell portion of the meeting.

In October Janella Macbeth, quilter and author of ScrapStashtic Quilts: Organizing Your Scrap Fabric Stash and ACTUALLY Using It, will be our guest speaker.  She enjoys hand, machine and paper piecing, applique, hand and machine quilting.  She looked for ways to streamline the way she dealt with scraps and thus her system for cutting, storing and using scraps evolved over the years and led to an Amazon #1 bestseller.  You can visit her website at www.janelleamacbeth.com.

Looking forward:  November, Modern Quilt Guild;  December, Holiday Party and Block Exchange; January, Round Robin Demos; February, Challenge

2018 Getaway - Ellen McMillen and Pat Sherman
We will continue to hold our Getaway at the Amish View Inn & Suites at 3125 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand. Next year the Getaway dates are February 21 - 25. We will take the Getaway reservations at the October meeting. This will allow everyone a bit of extra time to make their plans, and give our new members the opportunity to find out about this fun event. In addition to our main sewing room, we have signed up for a small conference room on the lobby level of the Amish View Inn. It can comfortably hold up to 10 quilters which allows us space for 38 quilters at the Getaway. Hopefully this will provide enough room for everyone who wishes to attend to do so. The room will have all the functionality of the larger room and has natural light. For those of you who would like a bit quieter working space this would be ideal. The total cost of the two sewing rooms will be $530 including tax, and is shared by all attendees. If we wish to limit the increase in the sewing room/food fee to approximately $4.00 per person we would need 34 attendees. The room rates (including tax) for a single/double room will be $102.12 for Wednesday/Thursday nights, and $150.96 for Friday/Saturday nights. A deposit of $100.00 per room will hold your reservation. The Getaway reservation form will be sent via email about 10 days prior to the October guild meeting. Should you have any questions please contact Ellen (610-363-5956, ejmcmillen@verizon.net) or Pat (717-517-8018, patspatch@comcast.net). We look forward to another wonderful Getaway!
