June 11- Inspired by Adventure

Terry Kramzar is a fabulous fiber artist in Kennet Square whose unique work has been featured in the AQS Quilt Life Magazine and other publications. She has received much recognition for her art and has exhibited in many different venues.
An intrepid explorer, Terry is committed to living an adventure-filled life. She has traveled to Africa, China, Zanzibar, all over Europe and has a goal of visiting every one of our national parks.

Terry will be sure to inspire as you head out for your own adventures in quilting.

FROM THE PRESIDENT      MARTI CAMPBELL
I cannot believe it is already June. Seems like yesterday that I was given the privilege of being your president. I would like to thank everyone for this opportunity, particularly my board and chairs. All of you made my life so easier and it is with deep gratitude that I thank you.
On this note I would like to remind those people to try and have your notebooks up to date and any end of year reports completed by the end of the month. Everyone will have to arrange a turnover to the 2012-2013 board and chairs, either at this meeting or over the summer.
Meanwhile, I hope all of you can attend the end of year party, especially since we have a terrific speaker as well.
Thank you again for asking me to be your president this past year.
Marti

NOTE: SHERYL MORROW ROBINSON'S FORMULA FOR SPACER STRIP
Our May speaker, Sheryl, gave us this formula for spacer strips. (Just in case you didn't get it or can't find the scrap you wrote on.)

A-B divided by 2 = C
A. Larger border length (measure inner side)
B. Shorter Border length "
C. Width of Spacer Strips (s)
Don't worry about partial number (1/4", 1/2") - Use full #.            Not 18 1/2 but 18.

MEMBERSHIP   SUZANNE STIVERSON
Don't forget:  May and June are membership months. Please bring a check or cash for $35.00 to cover membership for 2012-2013. I know you will check your cards and they good through 9/30/12, but actually your membership is good through September 1. We extend the cards so you would be able to reap any discount benefits until you get your new card in September.

Attached at the end of the newsletter is the form to fill out. We need you to fill one out each year to make sure we have all your correct information. Also bring this form- it helps keep down our guild copying costs.

At our May14 meeting, 34 of our 57 members attended. We brought in $7.25--$25 from our guests Tamara Rommel, Marianne Caporale, Sue Raymond, Elaine Mayer and Marylin Zimmerman (a previous member) and $.75 for 3 no name tags. Ten members have given me their checks or cash for 2012-2013. You can mail me the check and form at 2256 Diane Ct, Pottstown, PA  19464. the guild provided 2 door prizes. Jean Fox and Sara Borr won them.

Remember if you haven't picked up your 25th anniversary pin, please ask me for one-a few have not picked them up.

Don't forget, if you don't remember to wear your name tag, pick up one up at the membership table and pay $.25 "forgotten name tag" fee. All members, including our new ones have patterns for the name tag and also have the bi-laws that outlines this penalty. With so many new members, we really need to wear our name tags. If you need a pattern, just ask me. Also, take a minute to introduce yourselves or identify yourself during show and tell. w still have original Penn Oaks Quilters pins for sale for $5. Just ask me.

QUILT SHOW
Remember our next quilt show is Friday and Saturday May 3-4, 2013. We held the first official meeting for our 2013 show at my house on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 PM.

We accomplished a lot. We decided to continue using NQA judges that are local. We still need a volunteer who take the list of winner on Thursday before the show and type them up and have them printed for Friday distribution to attendees.

We will again have a workshop where we cut "GO" shapes with heat n' bond backing to sell at the Acorn Shop. We need 6" strips of fabric, ideally, but we will take take seasonal, themed, batik or bright fabrics to make the shapes in any amounts. Please provide to Sara Borr. If you have any items to sell at the shop, now is the time to start making them. The guild will take a 20% commission. Contact Sara Borr for details. We will also be collecting rick rack, lace, buttons, trims, etc to make packets to sell at the shop.

Also if you would like to donate a theme basket (kitchen, coffee, tea, chocolate etc) for our basket raffle please let Jean Fox know. Jean also needs larger baskets to fill. Please let Jean know if you do and you can coordinate a meeting. If you have gently used books or extra fat quarters, she could use them too.

Kelly Meanix will be chairing a small quilt raffle where each member will be asked to make a 16" x 24" finished quilt that we will raffle off at the show. She gave information at the meeting so please contact her for more information or clarification.

RAFFLE QUILTS FOR THE QUILT SHOW       KELLY MEANIX
We will be making small 16" x 24" quilt to raffle off at our quilt show next year. Just think, no taking a large raffle quilt to places to try and sell tickets, no sign ups for white gloving at the quilt shows!
I am telling you about this now because it gives you an entire year to make a quilt. We would love to get 100% participation in this project! Make anything your little heart desires....some themes could include, children, kitchen, flowers, patriotic, modern, landscape, geometrics, beach, winter, country, Christmas, any holiday, abstracts etc. use any technique you want just make sure it is quilted, hand or machine, and put a 4" sleeve on the back or you can use the triangle method. Make this your best work, please no cheater fabrics! The quilt that sells the most tickets will win a prize. I promise to come up with something really good!

All quilts will be hung at the show. Each quilt will have it's own coffee can with a picture of the quilt on it. We will sell tickets and the buyer will put the tickets in the can of any quilt they would like to win. The winning ticket will be pulled at the end of the show on Saturday. If you have any questions please call me at 610-873-7211 or email me at kellymx@aol.com

Also registration for helpers will start at our January 2013 meeting. Each chair will pass a sheet or we will have one sheet with all the positions to pass for you to mark the times and on the day(s) you can work. As the rules say "POQ members not working at the show and non POQ members will pay quilt show entry fee of $8 even if their quilts are displayed."

We will not print off the winners this year for folks to pick up. We will post a copy on the web and in the newsletter.

A quilt show takes everyone in the guild to be successful. Your contributions help fund our charitable giving and programs.

Thank you to everyone who made a quilt this year. Six Quilts have been made and returned to me. If you took a kit, please complete the quilt over the summer and bring it to guild in September so it can be on it's way to a sick child. Quilts made from your stash are also welcomed as well as fabric.

HISTORIAN
As the new historian I am looking for any early Penn Oaks memorabilia you may have. A number of years ago our early history was thrown away and I would like to collect as much as possible. If you have any membership lists, photos, announcements early quilt show info etc. I would appreciate it.
